GP Commissioning
Our Diagnostic and Treatment Service is ideal for the primary care setting. We are able to introduce significant cost savings and excellent treatment outcomes through managed care pathways and provide GP groups high levels of quality assurance for their patients with headache and migraine.
Most of headache conditions in the UK are managed in the primary care setting (98%) and around £250m a year spent on headache diagnostic and treatment services per year in the NHS. Much of this cost is unnecessary due to high referral rates to secondary care and use of medical imaging as well as utilisation of relatively expensive medical personnel.
Headache Treatment – NHS Cost Savings
By utilising specialist physiotherapists to triage the case load and through better identification of patients suffering from cervicogenic headache, the average episode cost for these patients can be significantly reduced. Savings are made through decreased use of medication, number of repeat prescriptions and visits to GP and the often unnecessary referral to secondary care and use of medical imaging such as MRI.
We are currently in discussion with various GP Commissioning Groups and anticipate being in a position to set up a Headache and Migraine Service for NHS patients in the near future.
